Citi Personal Loans: Rates, Fees and Who Can Apply

Independent guideUpdated Provider: Citi (Citibank, N.A.)

A Citi Personal Loan gives you a lump sum at a fixed rate, repaid over 12 to 60 months, and Citi lets you check your rate before any hard credit inquiry. Its lowest advertised rate comes with conditions, and loans above $30,000 are only for existing Citi customers. Here is what Citi published when we checked on September 30, 2026.

How the Citi Personal Loan works

A Citi Personal Loan is a fixed-rate loan that you repay in predictable monthly payments over a set term. You choose the loan amount and the term. The loans are made available by Citibank, N.A., and Citi describes them as unsecured personal loans for qualified applicants.[1][3]

  • Loan amounts from $2,000 to $30,000 for customers who are new to Citi.
  • Up to $50,000 for customers who hold a Citi credit card or an eligible Citi checking or savings account, subject to Citi's credit underwriting.
  • Repayment terms from 12 to 60 months, at a fixed APR that does not change.
  • A rate check that uses a soft credit inquiry, followed by an online or phone application.
  • Funding as soon as the same business day into a Citibank account, or within 2 business days into another bank's account.

Citi lists debt consolidation, home improvement and unexpected expenses among the uses. Its site also has a debt consolidation calculator that estimates the potential savings of combining debts into one loan.[1][2]

Who can apply, and who it suits

Citi says it offers personal loans to eligible new and existing customers who meet credit and income requirements. It does not publish a minimum credit score or income on the pages we checked. The rules it does publish are specific:[1]

  • You must be at least 18 years old, or 21 in Puerto Rico.
  • Co-applicants are not permitted, so the loan is in one person's name.
  • If you have been a Citi credit card customer for less than 12 months and have no Citi deposit account, you are not eligible.
  • Loans above $30,000, up to $50,000, are limited to customers with a Citi credit card or an eligible Citi checking or savings account.
  • If you apply online, you must agree to receive the loan note and disclosures electronically and sign electronically.

  • Our view of a likely fit: an established credit history, card balances with other issuers that you want to roll into one payment, and a plan to repay within five years.
  • Our view of a weaker fit: a thin credit file, a need for a joint application, or debt that sits on Citi cards, which this loan cannot pay off.

Rates, terms and discounts

On September 30, 2026, Citi's personal loan page showed rates as of September 29, 2026: an APR as low as 10.24% or as high as 18.49% for the term of the loan. Citi says rates can change without notice.[1]

TermAs published by Citi
APR range10.24% to 18.49%, fixed (rates as of September 29, 2026)
Repayment terms12 to 60 months
Loan amount, new to Citi$2,000 to $30,000
Loan amount, eligible existing customersUp to $50,000
AutoPay discount0.25% APR, if you enroll when the loan is originated

Sources[1]

The 10.24% end of the range comes with conditions. Citi says it assumes excellent credit, a 36- or 48-month term, and the 0.25% AutoPay discount taken at origination. Your APR depends on factors including your creditworthiness, the term and your existing relationship with Citi.[1]

Customers in a Citi banking Relationship Tier when they apply may be eligible for an APR discount. If more than one relationship-based discount could apply, for example from a banking tier and a qualifying credit card relationship, only the highest one is used.[1]

Fees and paying off early

Citi's page says there are no origination fees, and its disclosures state that no late fees or prepayment penalties apply. Its FAQ also says Citi will disclose any personal loan fees when you submit your application, so read the loan documents before you sign.[1][2]

You can pay the loan off early at any time. Citi does not currently allow principal-only payments, but you can make a one-time payment of any amount as long as it covers your monthly statement balance.[1]

Automatic payments are monthly withdrawals of your loan payment from a qualifying checking, savings or money market account. Enrolling at loan origination is what earns the 0.25% APR discount.[1]

How checking your rate and applying work

  • Check your rate online. To look for offers you may qualify for, Citi uses a soft credit inquiry, which does not affect your credit score.
  • If you are shown an offer and continue, you complete and submit the application. Citi then runs a hard credit inquiry, which may affect your credit score and the loan amount offered to you.
  • You can also apply by phone at 1-833-382-0004, extension 1106, or enter an invitation code if Citi sent you one.
  • Once approved, Citi can deposit the money into an existing Citibank account the same business day, or into an external bank account within 2 business days.

Sources[1][2]

There is a condition on funding. If the external account was opened recently, Citi may reject it as the account to receive the money. You can then choose another bank account or take a check by mail, which generally arrives within 5 business days.[1]

If you are consolidating debt, confirm during the application how payoffs to your other creditors will be handled. Citi says it will not issue payoff checks for Citi credit cards, Checking Plus or Ready Credit accounts, because those balances are not eligible.[1][2]

Restrictions and fine print

  • Loan money cannot be used for post-secondary education expenses or business purposes.
  • Credit cards issued by Citibank, N.A. or its affiliates, and Checking Plus and Ready Credit accounts, cannot be consolidated with the loan.
  • No co-applicants.
  • Citi credit card customers of less than 12 months without a Citi deposit account are not eligible.
  • Amounts above $30,000 are only for existing customers with a Citi credit card or eligible Citi checking or savings account.
  • Your APR may increase by 2.00% if you are in default.
  • Terms, conditions and fees can change at any time, and rates can change without notice.

What to compare it with

Because Citi's first step is a soft credit inquiry, its quote is easy to add to a comparison. It works best as one of several quotes, not the only one.

  • A personal loan from your own bank or credit union.
  • Other lenders that let you check a rate before a full application.
  • For card debt, a balance transfer card, if you can repay within its promotional period. Check the transfer fee and the rate after the promotion ends.
  • Borrowing less, or paying down your highest-rate debt first.

Ask every lender the same questions so you can compare like with like:

  • What is the APR, and is it fixed for the whole term?
  • What will I repay in total over the term I choose?
  • Are there origination or late fees, and is there a prepayment penalty?
  • Does checking my rate use a soft or a hard credit inquiry?
  • Can I apply with a co-applicant, and are there limits on what the money can pay off?

Frequently asked questions

Does checking my rate with Citi affect my credit score?

No. Citi uses a soft credit inquiry to check for offers. If you are shown an offer and go ahead with the application, Citi runs a hard credit inquiry, which may affect your credit score.[1]

Can I use a Citi Personal Loan to pay off my Citi credit card?

No. Credit cards issued by Citibank, N.A. or its affiliates, as well as Checking Plus and Ready Credit accounts, are not eligible for debt consolidation. Citi says the loan can be used to pay off credit card debt from other lenders.[1]

How much can I borrow?

From $2,000 to $30,000 if you are new to Citi. Customers with a Citi credit card or an eligible Citi checking or savings account may be eligible for up to $50,000, subject to Citi's credit underwriting.[1]

Can I add a co-applicant?

No. Citi states that co-applicants are not permitted.[1]

Are there fees?

Citi advertises no origination fees and says no late fees or prepayment penalties apply. It also says it will disclose any fees when you submit your application.[1]

How quickly can I get the money?

Once approved, as soon as the same business day into an existing Citibank account, or within 2 business days into another bank's account, provided that account was not recently opened.[1]
