How we research, write, review, and correct our guides.

Last updated

Our guides help readers make informed decisions about online courses and consumer financial products. A guide should explain who a product may suit, what the provider says it offers, what it costs, which conditions matter, what remains uncertain, and what to check before committing. We describe these things plainly and do not repeat promotional claims as facts.

Sources and verification

We prefer official sources: the provider’s product and pricing pages, rate and fee disclosures, terms, and help documentation. Each guide lists its sources and the date we checked them. That date records when we reviewed the source. It does not mean we used the product, completed the course, or tested the provider’s claims ourselves.

Prices, rates, terms, and availability change. When a detail cannot be confirmed from a source, we mark it as unknown instead of estimating it. Always check the provider’s current information before you apply, sign up, or pay.

Financial products

For loans, credit cards, and other consumer financial products we apply extra rules:

  • Rates (APR), fees, repayment terms, loan amounts, and eligibility requirements come only from the provider’s official sources, with the date we checked them. We state them as the provider’s published ranges or conditions, never as our own estimates or averages. If the provider does not publish a figure, we say so.
  • Both the introduction and the full guide state that we are not a lender or card issuer, that we do not take applications, that the guide is not financial advice, and that the provider decides whether you are approved and what rate you receive.
  • We do not promise or imply guaranteed approval, no credit check, or the lowest rate. If a provider’s official wording makes such a statement, we quote it in the body of a guide only together with the conditions the provider lists. We never use such wording in headlines, search titles and descriptions, or buttons, even when the provider does.
  • Example calculations use only the provider’s published figures and are labeled as examples, not personal quotes.

AI assistance and human review

AI tools may help us organize research, draft outlines and text, and check consistency against our sources. AI tools do not decide what we publish. A person reviews every guide before it is published, checking its sources, accuracy, limitations, disclosures, and links, and approves each published version.

Our own analysis

Suggestions, comparisons, and questions to ask are our own editorial analysis, and we write them so they are not mistaken for the provider’s statements. We do not invent ratings, reviews, testimonials, user counts, personal experience, or credentials.

Advertising and independence

Advertisements are labeled and kept visually separate from the guides. Advertising never decides what a guide says, and you never need to interact with an advertisement to read a guide or reach a provider’s website. If we ever use a paid or affiliate link, we will disclose it where it appears.

Corrections and versions

If you believe a guide is wrong or out of date, send us the page address, the statement you question, and a source through our contact page. We review reports, correct guides when needed, and publish a new version. An older version may stay reachable through its version link; it describes the information as of its own check date and does not claim that those details are still current. Content that is misleading or unsafe may be withdrawn.
