U.S. Bank Simple Loan: a $100 to $1,000 loan for checking customers, and what it costs
The U.S. Bank Simple Loan is a small loan of $100 to $1,000 for existing U.S. Bank personal checking customers facing a planned or unexpected expense.
You repay it in three monthly payments, and the cost is a flat fee of $6 for every $100 you borrow. In U.S. Bank's own $400 example, that works out to a 35.65% APR (checked September 30, 2026).
U.S. Bank itself calls the Simple Loan a high-cost loan and says more affordable options may be available. It is built for a short, one-off gap rather than ongoing borrowing, and you can only apply if you already have an eligible U.S. Bank checking account with recurring direct deposits.
This is an independent guide. We are not a lender, we do not take applications, and this is not financial advice: U.S. Bank decides whether you can apply, whether you are approved and what terms apply. Use this page to decide whether the fee is worth it compared with cheaper options.

Check before you decide
- Only U.S. Bank personal checking customers can apply. The product page requires recurring direct deposits, and U.S. Bank's FAQ says the account must have been open at least six months.
- It is expensive: U.S. Bank's own $400 example works out to a 35.65% APR, and the bank describes the Simple Loan as a high-cost loan.
- Paying early does not reduce the fee you owe.
- After paying off a Simple Loan, you must wait 30 days before taking another one.
- Approval is subject to eligibility and credit approval. The pages we checked do not say whether U.S. Bank uses a hard or soft credit inquiry.
