PNC student loans are closed to new applicants: what current borrowers and students can do
PNC Bank's private student loans for undergraduate, graduate, health professions and bar study students are closed to new applicants; PNC stopped taking new applications on December 18, 2025.
This guide explains what that means if you already have a PNC student loan, and where students who still need to borrow can start instead.
If you already have a PNC student loan, PNC says your interest rate and repayment terms stay as stated in your credit agreement, AES or Aspire keeps servicing the loan, and pending disbursements go ahead as scheduled. These are private loans, so they do not qualify for federal programs or forgiveness, and the closure does not let you move them to another lender.
If you still need to borrow for school, the U.S. Department of Education's advice is to start with federal student loans, which begin with the FAFSA form. This is an independent guide: we are not a lender, we do not take applications, and this is not financial advice. Any lender you apply to decides whether you are approved and what rate you get.

Check before you decide
- You cannot apply for a new PNC student loan or PNC Education Refinance Loan. Applications created before the cutoff had 30 days from their start date to be submitted.
- PNC student loans are private loans and do not qualify for federal programs or forgiveness.
- The closure does not let you transfer existing PNC loans to another lender; refinancing would mean a new loan from a different lender.
- PNC's student loan page no longer shows rates or terms for new loans, so this guide does not quote any.
- Private student loans from other lenders are generally more expensive than federal loans, according to the Department of Education.
